Kettle Karvers
Serving Woodcarvers in East Central Wisconsin
2018 Woodcarving and Wood Sculpture Show
Kettle Karvers hosted their 28th annual woodcarving show and competition on Saturday, April 21, 2018. After
experiencing a record-setting Wisconsin snow storm the previous weekend, the show was held on a beautiful
spring day. A large crowd of people joined members at the Lakers Ice Center in Sheboygan. This year's show
included over 50 carvers. County Line Products had a large supply of wood for sale. Hummul Carving Company
sold tools. Concessions during the event were provided by the Lakers Ice Center. If you missed this year's
show, join us on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the Lakers Ice Center for our 29th annual show or check out the
club information on
Facebook.
The Wayne Gilbertson Memorial "Kids Carve" was held between 11:30 am and 1 pm. Children,
with a parent or guardian present, joined a club member for either a leaf woodcarving project
or turtle carved in soap project. Katie Anderson, Ron Feld, Dave Rowlands, and Jeff See
volunteered to work with the children. Lori Gilbertson donates to the club to make this event
possible to honor her late husband who was a Kettle Karvers member.
Ed Mueller of Waupun, WI, was
awarded the Peoples' Choice
Award for his table at the show.
Congratulations, Ed.
The 2018 featured carver was Roger Carlson
of Kiel, Wisconsin. Roger started carving in
Junior High School, and his first carving project
was a pig using a pocket knife and exacto
knives. He moved on to chains, shore birds,
and spoons. After retirement, he attended
classes at Fox Valley Technical College in Chilton
with Bill Wright as the instructor. Roger has
also taken classes with Cleve Taylor, Floyd
Rhadigan, Rick Jensen, Greg Wirtz, and Steve
Brown. He enjoys many different types of
carving--caricature, birds, animals, relief, and
gourds. He also enjoys woodburning.
Best of Show and Best in Class for the
Intermediate classification was awarded
to
Dave Vande Voort of Athelstane, WI.
Dave was also awarded Best of Show and
Best in Class as a Novice in last year's
show. Dave also took blue in Songbirds
and Chip Carving.

The Artistry in Wood Best of Show plate
was carved by Bob Lawrence.
Gene Mathes of Sheboygan,
Wisconsin, demonstrated cane
carving and decorating before a
